The last Warner woman by Kei Miller follows the life of a woman who has the ability to foresee the future

Her story is unraveled through the lens of a writer who may be motivated by something more than her life as a warner woman.

The structure of the book is unique. You do not only read the story about the warner women the author within the book is putting together, but you read her reaction as she manages to get hold of the passages he writes about her after being interviewed. There are two overlapping stories. One is the fictional version of the other one that is factual. At first, I was confused by this because you read two versions of the same story. And because of this, I quickly held back on the story written by the author, since we know as we read that he takes liberty at shaping details the way he feels would fit best for his book. He also fills in the blanks when he is not able to get information from the warner woman about specific things. This results in you knowing that the details you read from him about her may not be reliable. But, after a little while, I got used to it and it even became fun to read. Another thing I had to get used to is reading Jamaican patois. There are two writing styles. One that is in prose and lyrical and the other that is in your face without any delicacy given to words and unapologetically honest. It was well-done. You read the hardships of a Warner woman whose gift may be considered as a curse. However, there is more to it. We all (the reader, the writer and the warner women) are investing in it.Overall, it is enjoyable. The storytelling is undeniably ingenious and hard to forget.
