Despite having a whole family, Abel goes on living the life of the dead man he impersonates and starts over.
The ghost of our family is like a collection of stories that follows the lives of the protagonists who all have one thing in common. Abel. From the 21th century, we go back through Abel’s family tree in the time of slavery.
We board into the journey of those who have been impacted by this one decision and I have to say that is fascinating.
The writing style is excellent. The storylines are nicely and cleverly intertwined. The sorrows, the pain, the crisis through which the protagonists go are described well. The imagery set the book apart. The book followed me everywhere in my house. I ate while reading it which was a first for me. I even wanted more. I felt like there was room for more stories. There is a truthfulness element I found touching. I was investing in the life of every character. They are all multidimensional, complex and complicated. In other words, they are not black and white. You hate and like them at the same time.
The book is shaped by the hazards and mishaps of life. The fantastical aspect of the book brings us to the famous Caribbean folklore stories. I believe in those folklore stories so I appreciated reading about those. Please read it. It is a gem.
