Ketchup Cloud by Anabel Pitchell follows a young girl, Zoe, who has done something terribly wrong and got away with it. She decides to write a series of letters to a convict who is on his death row so that she shares her story and maybe relieves the weight of culpability she has been carrying ever since the event. She changes all personal details in order to remain anonymous. In her letters, Zoe tells how she found herself untangled in two romance stories. As she goes through her issues, she finds out that she is not the only one to hide ugly secrets.
There are two alternate storylines in every chapter. One is set in the past, a year before the event and the other in the present moment. The book is touching and moving. It is nicely and coherently written considering that the letters are written by a young teenager reflecting on her past. Anabel Pitchell managed to capture greatly the feeling of guilt that is experienced by the main character, Zoe. There are some interesting intrigues despite the fact that it is quite easy to figure out where the story goes. I cannot say that the ending surprised me but it made me shade a tear.

Fast-paced read, easy to go through in only 312 pages. The two alternate stories blend smoothly and perfectly together, there is no disconnection between them.

The book cover is consistent with the story; you understand the bird flying away and the choice of the colour.
